Epiphany | Bilbao

This 1 Year Ago practice just might kill me. It’s another solid example of saying yes and figuring it out later.

Here’s a good example: Hey everyone! We’re going to Europe for a year!

Reality: you can only go to Europe for 90 of every 180 days.

Revision: Hey everyone! We’re going to Europe and then coming back and then going to Costa Rica and then coming back and then going to Europe and then coming back and then going to Europe one last time!

Not as cool, right?

Anyway back to Bilbao.

1 Year Ago we awoke to deserted streets and hungry bellies and absolutely nothing open. Because apparently, January 6th is a national holiday in Spain.

Epiphany.

Oh, the irony.

The little children of Bilbao had laid out their little shoes the night before, filled with snacks for the donkeys, and the Three Kings had refilled them with presents while they slept.

Our public square was now mostly deserted, a smattering of kids kicked around a ball, the library shuttered, tiny beers and glasses of wine now consumed inside around the dining room table.

So we did the same. Feet kicked up at Calle Diputación 10, coffee brewed, corner market pasta and sauce ready for later.
